Flash flooding hits Gauteng province in South Africa

Heavy rains on Thursday and Friday early caused flash floods in portions of South Africa’s Gauteng region.

Residents of Lenasia, a neighbourhood south of Soweto, rapidly rallied to react to screams for assistance.

The rise in water levels left some inhabitants with little alternative but to flee their houses.

Many individuals, particularly the elderly, had to be rescued from the rising floods by community members.

Paramedics were on hand to assist any patients.

Some residents criticized the local officials, claiming that their absence demonstrated a lack of leadership.
