Malawi’s cholera outbreak passes 400 deaths

Malawi has been hit by a cholera outbreak that has claimed over 400 lives since it began in March. The number of infections has reached nearly 14,000, with the worst-affected areas being Mangochi, a tourist hub, and Blantyre, the second-largest city in the country.

The Malawi government has urged people in these areas to get vaccinated, and has so far managed to achieve 83.6% coverage in 13 out of 15 districts targeted for vaccination. The World Health Organization provided Malawi with 2.9 million doses of the cholera vaccine in November.
