S.A: Relatives of fuel tanker explosion victims honour loved ones

The death toll from a fuel tanker explosion in Johannesburg, South Africa on Christmas Eve has risen to 26, according to a local official. The truck, which was carrying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) used for cooking, got stuck under a bridge in Boksburg and caused a leak and an explosion that damaged a nearby hospital. Initially, 10 people were killed, and eight more died from severe burns and other injuries, with an additional eight more fatalities subsequently reported.

The relatives of the deceased gathered in Johannesburg to mourn and honor their loved ones during a memorial service. The service was an opportunity for the families to come together and support one another during this difficult time, as well as to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the tragic fuel tanker explosion.

The driver of the truck was arrested on suspicion of culpable homicide but was later released due to lack of evidence. President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his condolences to the families of the victims and is awaiting the results of investigations into the tragedy.
